Publisher Seeks Local Writer Who Loves Scotts Valley History

Arcadia Publishing is looking to publish a book on the photographic history of Scotts Valley and needs a local author or historian to work on it with them.

The leading local history publisher in the U.S., Arcadia Publishing, wants a local author to work on a photographic history of Scotts Valley. The publisher works with both new authors and seasoned authors and has had many requests to produce a book on Scotts Valley.

Amy Perryman, the California acquisitions editor, said, that an author comes in many forms.

“It’s the author’s responsibility to provide images and text. An author would need to gather a minimum of 180 vintage photos,” she said.

Perryman explained that Arcadia works with all kinds of authors, and she stressed that familiarity with the local history is needed for the project.

Arcadia is a full-service publisher, which means that it cover the entire cost of the book production, including experienced editorial, marketing, and sales support. Editors work closely with authors during the development of the project. Authors earn royalties without any financial investment on their part.

Arcadia’s series, “Images of America,” specializes in local history and allows thousands of historical organizations and authors nationwide to preserve their community’s history and unique character. In April 2011, Arcadia published a book called Soquel by Soquel Pioneer and Historical Association, and now they are looking toward Scotts Valley.
