Dog Survives Highway 17 Crash

The dog ran out of a flipped SUV but was later reunited with its owner.

A couple of cars were crunched on treacherous Highway 17 Tuesday morning, but man's best friend was reunited with its owner.

Shortly after 10 a.m., a woman driving a black Infiniti QX4 (previously identified as an Escalade by dispatchers) lost control of her vehicle and drifted into the right lane where she struck a white dodge van, CHP Officer Sarah Jackson said.

The Infiniti, which contained a canine passenger, rolled over north of the Laurel curve in the right lane and came to a stop.

The dog ran out of the SUV and took off northbound on the highway. Luckily, no one was injured, the dog included, and it was reunited with its owner, Jackson said.

Traffic was backed up through the morning as the right lane was closed and the scene was cleared.
