UPDATED: Home is Lost in Early-Morning Fire

Firefighters are called to two-alarm fire around 2 a.m. Friday.

A Scotts Valley single-family residence was lost early Friday morning after a two-alarm fire broke out at the home.

According to emergency radio traffic, a call came in around 2 a.m. from someone saying steam was coming from the home at 90 Alto Sol Court. Shortly after, a neighbor called in, saying the porch was on fire.

When firefighters arrived at approximately 2:09 a.m., the home was fully engulfed, according to Greg Vandervoort of the Scotts Valley Fire District. Scotts Valley police were already on the scene.

"The family was asleep inside when the fire began," Vandervoort said. "They heard the smoke detectors and were able to get out."

Vandervoort said no one was injured.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Vandervoort said it appears to have begun on the back deck of the home.

Scotts Valley firefighters put out the fire at approximately 3:30 a.m.

"We were out there for almost eight hours after doing mopping, overhaul and salvage," Vandervoort said.

He said there was some exposure to the fire to surrounding homes but that none of the other homes were damaged. Unfortunately, the home at 90 Alto Sol Court suffered extensive damage.

"It looks like it is a pretty complete loss," Vandervoort said.
