Hwy 17: SUV Flips after Dog Runs in Road

The left lane is open, but emergency crews are cleaning up the accident in the right lane.

Original Report: A two-vehicle crash on northbound Highway 17 north of the Laurel curve is backing up traffic on Tuesday morning.

At 10:16 a.m., CHP and Scotts Valley Fire responded to reports of the accident, involving a black Cadillac Escalade and either a white van or pick-up truck, dispatchers said.

The SUV was still laying on its side 30 minutes after the crash with an ambulance on the way, CHP Officer Sarah Jackson said.

The accident is blocking the right lane, but traffic is still moving slowly past the wreckage in the right lane, Jackson said.

According to dispatchers, one person called in to report that a dog running in the highway had caused the accident. That has not yet been confirmed.

Adding to the traffic is a minor accident just before the Laurel curve involving a black Mazda Miada.

It is not yet known if anyone was injured in the bigger crash. Stay tuned to Patch for more details.
