A Santa Clara man crashed his pickup truck into a pole on Mount Hermon Road early Sunday morning, around 12:51 a.m. The man was driving about 40mph when he hit the light pole at the turn lane to get onto Scotts Valley Drive, and he's very lucky to be alive, according to Captain Butch Theilen of Scotts Valley Fire.
"His head went through the windsheild. He was lucky he was wearing a really thick sports jacket and hood, it saved his head," said Theilen who responded to the call.
Witnesses who were driving behind the man say they saw the crash happen and that the man did not brake before hitting the pole, according the Theilen, who also said that the man was not wearing a seatbelt.
