Council Doubles Dog Limits in Scotts Valley

Residents may now own up to four dogs per household in Scotts Valley.

The Scotts Valley Municipal Code is getting a slight tweak due to a decision made by the city council at its meeting Wednesday evening.

As Patch reported yesterday, there has long been a rule in town that no one may own more than two dogs per household, unless the home is zoned as rural, in which case up to four dogs are allowed.

Because this law is rarely, if ever enforced in Scotts Valley, the council took action on Wednesday to make sure that they aren't making criminals out of responsible dog owners.

According to the Santa Cruz Sentinel, the new official limit for dog ownership per household in Scotts Valley is four.

The council made it clear that this change is not about enforcement against responsible dog owners, but safeguarding against out-of-hand situations.
