Check out "Tommy" next month at San Lorenzo Valley High School.

Contributed by San Lorenzo Valley High School:

San Lorenzo Valley High School brings the original rock opera "Tommy" to compelling, vibrant, rocking life with the top-notch triple-threat of singing, dancing, acting abilities of our cast of 32 students.

Artistic and Musical Direction by Arindam Krishna Das, Choreography by Nadia Lewis, written primarily by Pete Townshend and released in 1969, this rock masterpiece was performed at The Woodstock Festival with the sun auspiciously rising as the band began to play "See Me, Feel Me."

It was staged by the Seattle Opera in 1971, presented in concert with The Who and the London Symphony Orchestra in 1972 and as a feature film in 1975."Tommy" became a fully staged Broadway Musical Production in 1993, receiving 5 Tony Awards, including Best Original Score for Pete Townshend.

The show tells the story of Tommy Walker who as a result of severe trauma suffered in early childhood shuts down, becoming "deaf, dumb and blind" as described in the song "Amazing Journey." Tommy suffers further abuse while in this state. When by chance he is put in front of a pinball machine he miraculously excels at the game, becoming the "Bally Table King" during the ubiquitous favorite "Pinball Wizard." Other hit songs include "I'm Free," "Sensation" and "Listening to You," chronicling Tommy's journey from adversity to triumph of the the Spirit.

There was an injury accident on southbound Highway 17 between Vine Hill and Granite Creek roads. ARead More silver SUV went over the side around 11:30 a.m. Two people were trapped in the vehicle, badly hurt and the car was smoking. One was taken by helicopter to a trauma center, the other by regular ambulance -- all according to emergency radio traffic. We'll try to have more on the crash from the CHP tomorrow.
