Letter to the Editor: Educational Foundation Says Community Day a Success

With events like Community Day, SVEF has given over $130,000 to Scotts Valley schools this year alone.

Dear Editor,

Words cannot adequately communicate the gratitude the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation (SVEF) has for all the participants in our recent Community Day on Sept. 10! The multitude of businesses around town, the students who organized and staffed the car wash, flea market, garage and bake sales, and the many, many volunteers who contributed time and money, all made the day a tremendous success!

Our Community Day chairwomen, Gina Johnson and Lori Gentile, our volunteer extraordinaire Mike Rein and the hardworking members of SVEF led the charge over many months to pull together this event.

Patch’s excellent coverage and the event really helped build excitement and participation. The City of Scotts Valley’s willingness to tie its own events with ours and provide advertising funding made it truly a COMMUNITY DAY.

Thank you to all those who participated either by playing, shopping or dining, and to those who committed to provide a portion of their proceeds to SVEF. Our organization has given $130,000 THIS YEAR ALONE to our schools – providing funding to keep our libraries open, providing additional counseling services at the high school and middle school, reinstating services at both elementary schools, and supporting technology purchases needed by our students and staff.

Community Day has allowed us to give back to the many businesses that are always willing to support our needs, by encouraging our community to spend their dollars locally. As soon as our final amounts are totaled, the Ed Foundation will provide that information to our community, but we know already the day was a total success.
