Scotts Valley High has the opportunity to claim a major basketball this weekend with both the girls teams vying for the league championship.
The SCCAL crown is up for grabs and the Dirty Birds are poised to take it home to the Highway 17 corridor. The girls will face off against Soquel at 6 p.m., with the boys championship between Soquel and Santa Cruz tipping off afterwards.
Both games will be played at the brand new Kaiser Permanente Arena in downtown Santa Cruz, home of the NBA D-League Santa Cruz Warriors.
The Warriors announced on Thursday that they had readied the court for the games, moving the three-point line in to high school range, several feet closer to the hoop than the D-League three-point line.
The girls finished with a league record of 9-3. In their last match-up with Soquel, they lost 46-40. MaxPreps shows the girls ranked 192nd in the state.
