What to Expect From Tonight's School Board Meeting

The Board will hear the results of the educational parcel tax poll and possibly adopt a resolution to put the tax on the ballot.

The Scotts Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the City Council Chambers, One Civic Center Dr. The board is expected to consider the following items:

  • The Board will review and approve the Single Plan for Student Achievement for Brook Knoll Elementary School. Single Plans for Achievement are required by the state and their purpose is to provide a “structured means to improve student academic performance.”
  • The Board will accept information on the 2012-2013 California State Budget. Each January, the governor presents a proposed budget for the coming fiscal year. The final version is slated to be adopted in June. A presentation will be made at the meeting focusing on the Education Budget for the next year.
  • The Board will hear the results of the educational parcel tax opinion poll that was conducted by Gene Bregman and Associates at the beginning of January. The Board authorized the poll at its Dec. 10 meeting to gauge the public’s opinion on aspects of the tax, including the amount, duration, and whether it should be a special mail-in election in May or on the ballot in the June primary.
  • After receiving the information on the parcel tax poll, the Board will review and adopt a resolution proposing the educational parcel tax measure.
